The
Fender Mexico Factory A
Photo Tour Electric
Guitar Bodies
There
have been a lot of myths floating around as to how they actually
make electric guitars in Mexico. Some say they cut the
bodies in Corona and send them to Mexico; some say they paint
the US guitars in Mexico, etc.
Well, let’s take a
look and see exactly what they do. That will answer
a lot of your questions.
What
we see here is one of the routers. On the right are raw
slabs of wood, in the router we see bodies being cut and routed.
So now we know they don’t cut the bodies in the US and send
them down.
Here we
see stacks of Stratocaster bodies.
Inside
the body, you will notice a sticker. Every body has a bar code
sticker on it. Every time something is done to the body,
it is scanned. This way they know the status of every
body, and know who and when it was worked on. If there
is a problem, they know exactly what and when it happened.
The bodies
are then finish sanded.
Here we have finish
sanded bodies ready to go.
The necks are still
made in the US and shipped to Mexico. They are still in
a very rough condition. They will need to be finished
sanded and sprayed.
As
you may remember from the Acoustic section, the Mexican factory
is completely capable of making their own necks, if Fender
ever chooses to do this.
