The Fender Mexico Factory
A Photo Tour
Final Guitar Assembly

All the parts are now ready for final assembly. Quality control is very tight at the Mexico factory and the guitars are tested at every step during assembly.

Like I mentioned before, notice those huge Fenders amps used for testing.

Here the necks are being prepared for assembly.

The necks are attached to the bodies.

The electronics are installed and the guitar is setup and tested.

Again, notice the amps for testing.  Most of them were Stage 100’s, but one looks like an FM 65R.

From this point on, it is a prerequisite that you play guitar. If you don’t play, you can’t get any of these positions.

This is the end of the line.  The final quality control person decides whether the guitar passes, or needs to be rejected and fixed.

He tests every control, every switch position, and all the setup properties, including intonation.

He also plays the guitar and plays on every single fret. If anything sounds off, he rejects the guitar.

Again, every single guitar is tested, not spot-tested.

The factory also builds special run guitars.  Here we see Ruben holding a soon to be released, Johnny Hallyday guitar.

Special runs have a minimum quantity of 250.  This was a 300 guitar run.

I was also told that anyone could recommend a special run guitar.  It of course, has to make sense to marketing before it can be made.

The SplatterCaster started out as a special run of 300. Because of the demand, the quantity was increased to 3000.

Did I play it?  Of course.  Three Tele pickups, two chrome covered, and the pickguard was chrome also.

I later found out that Johnny Hallyday is one of the biggest stars in France, with a music and a movie career.

I also played around with an Acoustasonic Strat.

Just as a side note, I asked Ruben about all of those big amps used for testing. They could very easily get away with a small Frontman.  His reply was that they were the factory, they have them, so why not?
