Fire Wire Strings

By Mark S. Wong

Website: www.firewirestrings.net/

Not long ago my editor sent out a few sets of Fire Wire strings for me to check out. I figured, “sure, I can always use more strings”. After they arrived, I put them in the drawer and did not give them another thought.

Not long after that, my on-line buddies decided I needed a Telecaster. So, they got together and sent the majority of the parts to me as gifts.

So, after I put it all together, I put on a set of my regular brand of stings and started to set it up. When it came to setting the intonation, I found it impossible to intonate the bass strings. The tuner needle was all over the place, and no matter what I did, I could not get it set.

As a last resort, I grabbed a set of Fire Wire strings and put them on. After doing my “string stretching” exercises, I tuned them up and set the intonation. When it came to set the bass stings, the needle on the tuner was rock steady. I made a few saddle adjustments and “Bingo”. I was set.

Also, with other strings, no matter how you stretch them, they seem to stretch a bit more after a few days before they stayed in tune. I found this not to be the case with FireWire strings. They seemed “broken in” right after the initial installation, and ready to play. Tuning also seemed to be much easier to set, with very little needle jitter.

I wrote Chuck, my editor and told him my observations. He just laughed and told me to check out their web site.

So I pulled up the web browser and hopped on over to the FireWire strings site. Low and behold, what do I see? Right there on their web page it states: “…the core wire…is subjected to a pre- stretching technology. …Resistant to premature breakage… require very little effort to stay in tune, which is the result of pre-stretched core wire.”

All I could say was “wow”. They made me a believer without ever reading a spec of their marketing information. Some are the highlights of these stings are: the pre-stretched core, a tighter wrap that keeps them cleaner, and they are magnetically enhanced to work with your pickups much better.

When you go to their website, there are a lot more reasons why they are such excellent strings, and I suggest you go there and read about all of the features yourself. But for me as a guitar player, I’m more concerned how they perform.

In a nutshell, I can tune them quickly and easily, without needle jitter on my tuner. They sound great, my guitars are much easier to intonate, and they stay in tune right after installation, instead of a few days later. Oh, and they seem to last forever!

Check out a set of FireWire’s for yourself! I know you will like them as much I as do!
